Fr Edmonds

As the Church of England Parish Priest in Edlington (and Hexthorpe) for almost six years, Fr Stephen has always committed himself to working with local schools to promote and support the main driver that enables communities to grow and thrive. He is passionate about the potential for good quality education to transform the lives, not only of individuals but of the whole community.

Fr Stephen comes from North Nottinghamshire and spent time in the North East at the University of Durham, where he met his wife Rachel. After working in the hospitality industry, Fr Stephen began work in the Housing Sector, particularly working with local authority and housing association housing providers across the North of England on housing strategy and policy. He latterly worked with Darlington Borough Council as their Housing Strategy Officer and Investment Manager. Following the long-held call to ordination, he and his family moved for his training as a Priest to West Yorkshire and he returned to the North East to serve his title in Sunderland. Fr Stephen was asked to become parish priest of Edlington and Hexthorpe in late 2011 and began his work here in January 2012.

His involvement with Sir Thomas Wharton Academy began some three years ago and continues now with his involvement with the newly formed Local Governing Body. He has experience as a Governor in another local school and is also a Director of a recently formed Academy Trust. Fr Stephen's particular interests are around Performance Management and Teaching and Learning.
