In this section, you will find a range of resources that can be used to support students’ learning at home, including:

  • Knowledge Organiser:
This table summarises the key knowledge relating to the plot, context, characters and themes of the core text that students are studying in English. It can be used to test students’ knowledge of the text by asking them to tell you about important characters, events, themes and context.

  • Vocabulary List:
Here, you will find a list of key vocabulary relating to the core text that students are studying in English. It can be used to test students’ knowledge of the vocabulary and core text by asking them to explain what words mean, how they apply to the core text, or even to practise spellings.

  • Wider Reading List
Our Wider Reading List includes a range of suggested books that relate to the core text that students are studying in English. The suggestions include books they might want to read alongside the core text, books that are of the same genre and books that are considered to be ‘the best’ that has been written. If students are struggling to source a book, please visit the School Library, or contact an English teacher.

  • Super-curricular Learning Project
Alongside the core text that students are studying in English, we encourage students to undertake a ‘Super-curricular Learning Project’, which encourages students to engage with a wide range of sources that enrich their knowledge of the core text. This is an optional and student-led project, but students can ask their English teacher for help and support.

  • Talking Points
Students' study of their core text in English is supported by ‘Learning Questions’, which are designed to guide their learning and deepen their knowledge. In this document, you will find the ‘Learning Questions’ that students will explore, as well as a series of corresponding ‘Talking Points’ that can be used at home to facilitate further discussion. The Oracy: Structured Talk roles can be used to support students to articulate their knowledge while also developing their oracy skills.
