Edlington Fire Station - SYFR ARC Course

Nine students spent five days at Edlington Fire Station completing the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Achievement, Respect and Commitment (ARC) course.

This week a small group of students from our Academy have repeatedly got wet and felt very cold whilst they participated and successfully completed a five day course with South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue at Edlington Fire Station.

The ARC course (which stands for Achievement, Respect and Commitment) main aim is to equip young people with life skills such as self discipline, teamwork and communication. The course also provides an insight of the work carried out by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and the role of a firefighter.

Areas and topics covered throughout the week were: First aid, road traffic accidents, rescue from heights including ladder work, control and correct use of water hose and squad drills involving fire command.

On Friday 9th February during their 'Passing Out Parade', the students put on an impressive display for the Civic Mayor of Doncaster, parents, staff from the Academy and officials from SYFR evidencing the skills they have learnt over the five days. They were each presented with individual portfolios of the tasks covered including photographs.

The STWA students listed below were all amazing and they are credit to the Academy. We are all very proud of the way they behaved, and the commitment and resilience they have shown during this very cold week in February.
