Today the City of Sheffield Pipe Band visited Sir Thomas Wharton Academy
They came to the Academy today to speak to some of our Year 8, 9 and 10 students. The band gave a history of their formation 110 years ago playing the bag pipes and drums. They told students about the important part that the Pipers played in the 1st and 2nd World Wars and how a piper received a Victoria Cross during the First World War for his bravery. This is a band steeped in history and has a passion for what they do. They have travelled the world going as far a field as Australia. Students were engaged, respectful and asked questions. A credit to the Academy!
