New Chat

Introducing the 'Chair's Chat'.

My name is Rob McRobbie and I am proud to have been elected as Chair of Governors at Sir Thomas Wharton Academy for the next two years.

By visiting the Academy website you will be able to find out more about not only myself but all the governors one of whose roles it is to set the strategy and vision of the Academy. I hope you like what you see as it is one of my priorities for the Governors to be more accessible, pro-active and outward looking which ensures involvement with all stakeholders so that governors are not just a faceless part in the background of the Academy.

The fact that I am designated as a National Leader of Governance you can be assured that, working with the senior leadership team, there will always be the best and up to date practice evident within the Academy.

Since joining the Academy I have been very impressed with the contribution and contact that it makes with the wider community. It is one of the many strengths of how the Academy works and the involvement of parents and those responsible for our wonderful students is vital in ensuring that each student is able to reach their maximum potential. I welcome your support and look forward to personally meeting as many of you as possible.

An excellent forum for this is through the regular Parent Voice meetings, all the dates of which you will find on the Academy website. I cannot encourage you enough to attend those meetings, make your views heard and help to ensure your child achieves what you would wish for them.

Each one of us is striving to ensure the students have a rich curriculum throughout each year of their educational journey, enjoy stimulating learning each day which will guarantee the maximum outcomes for our students that will equip them for life after school, whether that is in further education, apprenticeships or employment. Your continued support and contribution is essential to our collective success on their behalf.

I am overwhelmed with the commitment of our students, not only within the Academy but also within the wider community. Just during this term, on 5th October, myself and other governors supported our students doing the Press Launch at The Crown Hotel, Bawtry, of a wonderful video they undertook as part of working with Kevin Mincher the founder of Unstoppable Teen, entitled 'TEEN GB'. The only way you can appreciate how wonderful our students worked on this project is to view the video on I am sure you will be as proud and amazed as I was of the student's work. During November and December our students leaders will facilitate screenings and seminars in local primary and secondary schools across the Region. An excellent example of Sir Thomas Wharton students leading the way. Also, the students are involved in the Armistice Service on 10th November and supported the Poppy Appeal by working with the British Legion to sell poppy’s in the Asda Supermarket on Saturday 4th November. The response to our students was fantastic and I will let you know what they collected during the day in my next 'chat'. Additionally, I will be laying a wreath at the Cenotaph on 12th November, on behalf of the students and all the staff and governors of the Academy, showing our respect for all those from our community who made the ultimate sacrifice during the various conflicts. This further represents Academy support to the wider community and Edlington Town Council. It is also pleasing that the Remembrance Services will be conducted by one of the Academy Governors Father Stephen Edmonds.

This brief update is only touching the surface and the Principal will communicate all the other interesting things happening within the Academy. I will continue to communicate via this 'chat' and endeavour to contribute to your school newsletters in future, keeping you informed of how the Academy Governors, together with all the talented staff, are ensuring that rapid school improvement is taking place under the umbrella of the Maltby Learning Trust.
