APPRENTICESHIPS

What is an apprenticeship?  An apprenticeship is a real job where you learn, gain experience and get paid. You’re an employee with a contract of employment and holiday leave. By the end of an apprenticeship, you'll have the right skills and knowledge needed for your chosen career.

It can take between one and 6 years to complete an apprenticeship depending on which one you choose, what level it is and your previous experience. It’s funded from contributions made by the government and your employer.

As an apprentice you will:

  • Learn and train for a specific job

  • Get paid and receive holiday leave

  • Get hands-on experience in a real job

  • Study for at least 20% of your working hours - usually at a college, university or with a training provider

  • Complete assessments during and at the end of your apprenticeship

  • Be on a career path with lots of future potential.

Level Equivalent Education Level
Intermediate 2 GCSE
Advanced 3 A Level
Higher 4, 5, 6 and 7 Foundation Degree and above
Degree 6 and 7 Bachelor's or Masters Degree

Apprenticeships have come on leaps and bounds over the past 10 years. With 7 different levels being offered, some of which allow you to gain a degree. As a result, there are many subjects now being offered.

A brand-new tool for year 11, 12 and 13 students called Talent Pool, where they'll receive personalised opportunities directly from universities and employers regarding apprenticeships. This is where students can show off what’s special about themselves to employers and universities, who can send them personalised messages.

 • With Talent pool, your students can receive unique course and degree apprenticeship opportunities directly from employers as well as UK and international universities, tailored to their interests, skills, and academic profiles.

• Let top employers such as National Grid and KPMG find and reach out to your students with suitable degree apprenticeships.

• Take the stress out of Clearing by having universities approach students directly with suitable courses.

IN A NUTSHELL If a student opts into the talent pool:

 • Unifrog’s partner employers and universities can see: o A range of things the student has done on Unifrog (e.g. what Career sectors they’ve favourited, and what skills they’ve recorded) o Personal information the student enters when they join the pool (like their Predicts, and whether they’re the first in their family to go to university)

• Partner employers and universities can send the student personalised messages about things they think the student will be interested in, like internships, bursaries, and courses. The student can choose whether to respond.
