Health and Social Care

Curriculum Intent

Our Health and Social Care curriculum is built on the understanding that students will be inspired to work in a diverse and changeable sector that significantly impacts the health and well-being of service users and society. We will foster students’ ambition to promote excellence in standards of care, exploring and experiencing roles within the health and social care sector and examining the skills, attributes and qualities needed to succeed in such a profession and allow all students to be accountable for their own progress and success.

We believe that when students embark on their Health and Social Care studies, their prior knowledge will be informed by core disciplines such as Science, English, Physical Education and PSHE.  Across both key stages, our curriculum allows for the application of subject specific knowledge, skills and concepts to different Health and Social Care contexts allowing all students to gain a sense of real-world relevance.  This is enhanced by ensuring that students understand the latest industry requirements and relevant legislation; they will be given the opportunity to explore the impact of these on an ever-changing sector.

Students will develop their ability to research, extend their writing and meet deadlines, and develop holistically to ensure they are adequately equipped with practical, interpersonal and thinking skills helping make them workplace ready or prepared for further study. Empathy and compassion will be developed along with a determination to make a difference either in this sector or the wider world.
